Weekly Roundup #9: 6/23/13

Hi everyone!  As stated in my earlier post, life has just gotten in the way of my blogging, and I am sorry for taking my 10 day break!  I am back and ready for reading and fun!

I have been requesting fewer and fewer books on NetGalley and Edelweiss, because I have lots to keep me busy with ARCs, reading for fun, and sadly reading for an insurance exam coming up in the near future.

I had a fun trip to the San Francisco Mission Bay library… I lurrrrrve it so much.  It’s actually one of my favorite parts of living in San Fran!

01 original

The Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X #1) by Richelle Mead

Nerd Alert…. I am the VERY FIRST PERSON TO CHECK OUT MY COPY OF GofG from the SF library!  Don’t people know how amazing Richelle Mead is!?  Well, OK, this book has mediocre reviews so far, but I’ll give one of my fav authors, RM, a chance!

If I Should Die jkt des4.indd

If I Should Die (Revenants #3) by Amy Plum

Yep… another one.  FIRST PERSON TO CHECK THIS COPY OUT!  I want to jump into this trilogy as soon as I finish Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris.

Blaze (or Love in the Time of Supervillains) by Laurie Boyle Crompton

Masque of the Red Death (Masque of the Red Death #1) by Bethany Griffin

I received the ARC for the Dance of the Red Death, so I want to get into this series soon!

Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand

This is my book club’s July book – I’ve heard it’s amazing.  It’ll be a nice departure from my YA/NA/PN/UF lineup.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter #1) by J.K. Rowling

Can you believe that as obsessed as I am with reading, that I’ve never read HP!?  Or seen the movies?  I’m goin’ for it, and I’m so excited.

OBSESSION-final cover

Obsession by Jennifer Armentrout

Love, love, love the Lux series by JLa, and I love that she wrote another book from the Luxen world.  Obsession follows the ‘bad’ guys… I can’t wait to read it (and I got it for a great deal at $.99!)

Sactum (Guards of the Shadowlands #1) by Sarah Fine

One of my book besties, Dani, has been raving about this book… I will always follow her guidance, so of course I bought it!

Dark House (Experiment in Terror #1) by Karina Halle

Dani and my other book bestie, Angela, has been raving about the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle.  Dark House is FREE on Amazon, so check it out.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1) by Laini Taylor

One of my fellow YA fiction lovers at work has been raving about the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, so I took the plunge and purchased the first two installments.

Days of Blood and Starlight (The Daughter of Smoke and Bone #2) by Laini Taylor

Elixir (Covenant #3.5) by Jennifer Armentrout

I officially own all of the Covenant series!  The last novel comes out later this year.  I’m excited to get into this series.  Some people like it better than Lux… so it’s gotta be amazing!

Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer Armentrout

As you can see, I’ve been a busy bee with my library trips and Amazon/Barnes & Noble purchases.  What can I say?  It’s my hobby =)

What did you all get?  Hope you all are enjoying summer!

Hello fellow Bookworms!  Hope you all had a pleasant week full of reading and other fun activities!  Did anyone see Great Gatsby?  The movie times didn’t fit my schedule, so I hope to go next week.  Wanted to share the goodies that I got this week!

Via publisher:

The Trail of the Dead (Scarlet Bernard #2) by Melissa F. Olson

I am so, so, so excited for the sequel to Dead Spots!  The cliffhanger at the end left me NEEDING to hear what happens next, and I know that there is a lot more for Scarlet to learn about her abilities.  I will be starting The Trail of the Dead later this week.  Can you tell that I’m excited!  In the upcoming weeks, I will be featuring an exclusive interview with author Melissa F. Olson, which I am excited to share with you all!

Thank you to Cuddlebuggery for the #LBBA program & MsAshleighPage for donating this book!  I’ll be reading this in June or July 🙂

Via Goodreads First Reads Giveaway:

A Soul For Vengeance (Soulbearer, #3) by Crista McHugh

Confession: May has been a ridiculous month for me regarding the Goodreads First Reads Giveaways.  In the first 11 days of May, I won 7 books.  Yes…. crazy, right?  Are you wondering if I’ve purchased any Lotto tickets?  Or booked a flight to Vegas?  My BF thinks the odds might be in my favor this month!  Anyway, I will definitely be reading the Soulbearer trilogy!

This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost

LOVE Cat & Bones!  I plan on picking up the Night Huntress series again soon.  JF announced that Up From the Grave will be released in January, so I have a little bit of catching up to do before then!

Falling Into You (Falling #1) by Jasinda Wilder

I’ve seen this all over social media, so I took advantage of the $1.99 sale!

SF Library:

The Program cover

The Program (The Program #1) by Suzanne Young

I’ve heard great preliminary reviews for the latest dystopian series!  (Thanks for the glowing review and recommendation, Kelley!) Side note: One of the many reasons that I love living in SF is their library!  I put myself on the waiting list for The Program a few weeks ago while it was still at the vendor, so I am literally the first person to check out the copy I took home!  Cool, right? (Or is this another sign that I am a major nerd?)

Unraveling (Unraveling #1) by Elizabeth Norris

Anyone read this series?

Die for Me US New

Die for Me (Revenants #1) by Amy Plum

Or this one?

Anyway, THANK you for checking in and seeing what I’m up to! Would love to hear any of your thoughts.  Hope you all have an enjoyable week!  Can you believe we’re almost into June?  Stay classy, Planet Earth!

Mailbox Roundup Week 3: 5/5/13

Hello and Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Hope that you all have a wonderful week & weekend!  The San Francisco Bay area had phenomenal weather… 80s & sunshine almost every day!

My week was a bit busier with work, so I have some making up to do for my May ARC Challenge!  Anyway, let’s get to the good stuff!

From NetGalley:

This Girl (Slammed #3) by Colleen Hoover

OMG, OMG, OMG!  When I got an email at 6am that NetGalley had 300 copies ready to download, you should have seen me jump out of bed.  Something you should know about me is that I am all about the snooze in the mornings…. but this email got me up like there was a fire in the building.  My book twin, Danielle, and I are going to be reading the Slammed series in June.  I think we may do a readalong on our blogs.  Who’s in!?!?!

From Edelweiss:

Hearts in Darkness (Nikki and Michael #2) by Keri Arthur

Chasing the Shadows (Nikki & Michael #3) by Keri Arthur

I’m sorry, but holy boobs, Batman!  Curious to read about this Niki character to see how she is described in the book or if the cover artist just went to town on her.  ANYWAY, Love the prospect of a sexy, new paranormal series 🙂  I have Book 1 to review in July!

Naked (Blackstone Affair #1) by Raine Miller

Squee!  Been wanting to read these, so I am going to add these to my May ARC challenge =)

All In (Blackstone Affair #2) by Raine Miller

All the Summer Girls by Meg Donohue

A lot of the typical beach reads that I’ve read recently have been New Adult romances, so I’m excited to dive into a coming of age story about women.  These used to be my go-to books circa 2000’s, so it’ll be fun to shake up my YA/NA/Fantasy world!

The Deepest Night (The Sweetest Dark #2) by Shana Abe

I’ll have to read book 1 before August!

Walking Disaster (Beautiful #2) by Jamie McGuire

Despite all of the mixed reviews, I enjoyed Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful #1).  I’m excited to read Travis’ side of the story.

What did you all get?  What are you all reading?  I’m set to tackle Unhinged, Naked, Breathless, The Bane, & Miss Fortune Cookie this week!  Happy reading and enjoy your week!

Mailbox Roundup Week 2: 4/28/13

This Side of Jealousy (The Innocents #2) by Lili Peloquin

I read The Innocents a few weeks ago, and I’m so, so, SO excited to read on with this saga.  The book doesn’t come out until August 2013, so I’m going to try to wait a few months to read & review but I may read this week and publish my review in July instead.  Stay tuned for the review closer to the release date! Woo!

Miss Fortune Cookie by Lauren Bjorkman

Hello everyone!  New feature here on Book Obsessed Shan in San Fran (aka: B.O.S.SF)!  Woo hoo!  I love reading what other bloggers have received to review and how they received them.  I’d love to hear if anyone has read any of these!

This Is W.A.R.

This is W.A.R. by Lisa Roecker via Edelweiss (Soho Press)

So this was the first week that I’ve gotten the lovely emails from Edelweiss granting me access to their books!  For me, that is a big deal, especially when they are books that I canNOT wait to dive into!

fault line

Fault Line by  Christa Desir via Edelweiss (Simon Pulse)

I have a feeling this will have some of the New Adult formula involved… but am still reading the NA genre a lot recently.

A Curious Invitation: The Forty Greatest Parties in Fiction by Suzette Field via Edelweiss (Harper Perennial)

In any book that I read, I like to pour over and compare the following parts…. the sexytime scenes (whether it’s in the banter phase, dating phase, makeout phase, or the doing the deed phase….), the action scenes, and the parties!  I love the idea of a book to highlight the greatest fictional parties, of all time.  I wonder how many I’ve read!  This books makes me even more excited for The Great Gatsby to hit the big screen!

Scrap by Emory Sharplin via NetGalley (Greenleaf Book Group)

Great preliminary reviews coming in!  I like the cover, too.

white trash beautiful

White Trash Beautiful  by Teresa Mummert via NetGalley (Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books)

So… at first the name threw me off, because an ex-BF of mine loved a song called White Trash Beautiful.  I started seeing buzz about the book, and that was enough to twist my arm!  Anyway, can’t wait to read!

The Shadow

The Shadow (The Darkness Trilogy #1) by A.G. Porter via the author (Thanks, Amanda!)

Sounds like this book is right up my alley with the paranormal love story thing goin’ on 🙂

Tear (Seaside #1) and Pull (Seaside #2) by Rachel Van Dyken via Goodreads Read4Review

Ahh, I knew I had to read these when I read that they take place in Seaside, Oregon! My family is originally from Oregon, and I’ve been to Seaside several times!  Great initial reviews – I can’t wait to read these very soon!

Oh man, and the items that I’ve bought???  I literally went on a $1.99 (or less) shopping spree….
